For schools · ปีการศึกษา 2569

Your gold medalist can go further. Here is what we need from you.

Your district Story Telling round is OBEC's, and it stays OBEC's. What USAEnglish adds comes after it: prize money, and a live final in Chiang Mai on April 15, 2027 for ten ป.4–6 gold medalists from across Isan. For each finalist we pay return travel, two nights' hotel and every meal — for the child, one family member and the coaching teacher — and the teacher is paid a cash prize of their own, in their own name.

The school's part is three things, and none of them costs anything. This page is in English for now; the Thai summary for families is on the parents page.

Three things, and only three

1

Verify the gold medal

One email from the school — the English teacher, the head of the foreign languages department or the director — confirming that the child took a gold medal in Story Telling, ป.4–6, at your district round in ปีการศึกษา 2569, with the district office and the date. We check the medal with the school before judging, never during it, and the judges never see the school's name.

2

Name the coach

The coaching teacher named on the district entry form. They are entered for a prize of their own: every finalist's coach comes to Chiang Mai with the child, travel and hotel paid, and is paid ฿5,000 and announced from the stage as that child's Teacher Behind the Winner. A child who can tell a story in English in front of three hundred people did not get there alone.

Send the clip by March 31, 2027

The same story the child told at the district round, five to six minutes plus thirty seconds' grace, one take, no editing, phone held sideways with the whole child in frame, nothing else on screen. Send it to ben@usaenglish.com with the child's first name, the school, the district office, the coach's name and one line from a parent or guardian saying they are happy for the child to enter. If LINE is easier, say so in the email and we send the LINE link by email.

What it costs

Nothing. Not to the school, the child or the family.

There is no entry fee, no registration fee and no travel to pay for. Tickets and hotel rooms are bought by us, not reimbursed, so no family has to find the money first. If anyone asks a school or a family for money in our name, it is not us, and we would like to hear about it.

Posting a vacancy for a foreign teacher on our job boards is free this season too. Free to post, free to ask. If a listing fee is ever introduced, every baht of it goes to the competitions.

Every child who sends a clip gets their scores back through the school, whether or not they are one of the ten who travel. That is the part we can promise every school, not just ten of them.

What schools ask

The short answers

Do we have to register with you? — No. The district round is OBEC's, and you enter it exactly as you always have. Our part begins after the medal: the confirmation, the coach's name and the clip.

Can more than one child from our school send a clip? — Yes. Every ป.4–6 gold medalist may, and gold is a score, not a place, so several children in one room can hold one.

What happens to the clip and the child's details? — The judges see an entry number, an age band and a story; not the school, the district or the family name. No clip is published anywhere without a parent's written permission, and clips from children who did not ask to be published are deleted when the championship is over. What we do with it, exactly →

Does the school have to send anyone to Chiang Mai? — Only the coaching teacher, with the child and one family member, and only if the child is one of the ten. It is in the April school holiday, so nobody misses a lesson and no teacher has to ask for leave. Travel, hotel and meals are paid.

Is the final definitely happening? — It is planned and funded for April 15, 2027 from the non-profit's own money; the venue is the banquet room at Chiangmai Highlands Golf and Spa Resort. Where it stands today → No child should be told they are going to Chiang Mai until we have written to their school.

Is there help for coaching? — Fifty free lesson plans, a score sheet on OBEC's hundred points, and Ploy Hears, a ten-week pronunciation clinic a teacher can run from one phone. All free, no login.

Enter your children in เล่านิทาน (Story Telling) at งานศิลปหัตถกรรมนักเรียน as usual. When one of them takes gold in ป.4–6, send us the three things above.
